Right off the bat, the Dark Horse Genetics website is attractive, though it is a little Y chromosome dominated. Also, there is little information available on the homepage. For example, below a couple pictures of grinders and buds, there is a button which reads ‘wholesale seed (metric seed)’. When you click this button, you are brought the five inches back to the top of the page and nothing happens, so there is an immediately apparent design flaw. Click on Seed Catalog and you are brought to a page which has two pdf documents, one ‘retired seeds database’ and one ‘current seeds database’, not a whole heap of fun, guys. Clicking on the retired strains database, we are presented with quite a lot of information. The pdf is a test sheet from a company called RM3 Labs, and the incorporation number for Dark Horse is on the top right. The only strain in this database is called Bruce Banner #3 BB3-06157 RM1, and a complete cannabinoid breakdown is right there for you to look at. They also provide a play by play of how they test strains, so you can get familiar with their processes. Their current strains database contains thirty-two strains, all of which are listed as coming soon, so no dice on the seeds. Moving right along, it looks like Dark Horse would one day enjoy offering their clientele a clone and flower bank, but there is nothing in this menu either. It also says that they have retail locations in Colorado, California, Oregon and Washington, but there are no locations listed, simply a disclaimer that they offer the best authentic genetics in each state. In the Dark Horse Genetics trade shows section, they have one Boston rally listed, but that dates back to 2018 and there is no link to learn more. Continuing along the line of unending disappointments, the DHG International section opens to something called Darkhorse Spain Productions, which is really just a list of weblinks to other seed banks, few of which had little if anything to do with Spain. Their incredibly inappropriate podcast section has videos that don’t play, but instead have links to YouTube because they contain age restricted content. Curious, we click and are presented with four and a half minutes of an old video of creatively using the F-word aplenty, before we finally get to see some potty mouthed stoner make excuses as to why the site doesn’t work. There are numerous videos in this section and on their YouTube page, none of which we would recommend for anyone looking for a professional. This piece is in no way meant to be inflammatory, but simply to outline what happens when an online seed bank idea falls apart. There are multitudes of fantastic seed banks out there, so don’t get turned off by the rare few that suck.
